Great Links Tor – Years 5 & 6
Welcome to Great Links Tor. We have 26 children in a beautiful new classroom which is fantastic for our learning needs. Our class teacher is Miss Vincent and we also have three other adults that work in the class at various times, Miss Lambert, Mrs Lethbridge and Mrs Hobbs.
We had a brilliant Autumn term where we performed ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ as a class to the rest of the school and wrote our own very imaginative versions of the story. We explored properties of materials and how they change in Science and created a range of art based around Coasts and Oceans.
The children put on a stunning performance of our Christmas play ‘Superstar!’ along with Brentor. Thank you to all of the parents for their hard work in providing great costumes and helping the children to learn their lines.
Moving into the Spring term we have just started our new topic on Maya Civilisation and have lots of fun things planned including creating our own glyphs, having a maths lesson based on the Mayan number system and playing a (slightly amended) game of Pok a Tok! We are also going to have a look at the Chinese New Year and investigate the year of the Rooster, hopefully cooking up and tasting some Chinese food along the way. In art we will be using Andy Warhole as inspiration for our own pop art and in Literacy we are going to structure our own stories on ‘The Ice Bear’ by Jackie Morris.
